Having pain in the lower back is an extremely common occurrence. It comes in 2nd on the list of reasons for a visit to a medical doctor in the USA. It racks up about 100 billion dollars in medical costs. About 5% of people miss one day of work due to back pain in a year’s time. A root cause of back pain can actually be found in the neck. How is this possible?
Misalignments in the Neck
The top bone of the neck is called the atlas bone. It can be responsible for undue pressure being put on the spinal cord if it is found to be out of proper alignment. When the spinal cord is stressed, it can begin sending out improper signals to and from the brain. This can lead to pain, problems with posture, and pain in the muscles. If one side of your body is experiencing increased muscle tension, this leads to things such as sciatica. It also causes one hip to remain higher than the other causing the length of the legs to be uneven. As can be seen, this affects the entire body and how it functions – all from that little bone in the upper neck.

What can be Done?
How does someone go about treating a misalignment or even knowing if there is one? Consulting a professional in this field is the first step. That would be an upper cervical chiropractor, such as Dr. Elan Schrier of Delray Beach, Florida. Dr. Schrier is trained in detecting and correcting spinal misalignments. When the atlas bone is back in place, pressure is reduced on the spinal cord, and this can lead to less pain, a decrease in muscle spasms, and a correction of posture. The hips may level out when the muscle tension is reduced, and this may take the pressure and pain off of the lower back.
A study was done of a male patient with sciatica. He did have a misalignment of his atlas bone. Under the care of an upper cervical chiropractor, he noticed a great reduction in his sciatica symptoms.
Upper cervical chiropractic care is gentle, effective, and provides long-lasting relief. It can be the natural answer to a painful problem.
