Upper cervical chiropractic is a health care system that is becoming more and more popular in the world. As people search for alternatives to pain pills that have harmful side effects, or want to avoid surgery, many times they come across upper cervical care.
The reason why you may have not heard of it up until now is that there are only around 1,000 upper cervical chiropractors in the world. Most people either find them from a referral from their medical doctor who is familiar with the types of cases it can help, or a friend/family member that has experienced great results.(1)
Many people also find out about this unique type of health care through research on the internet. When they've tried "everything" out there for their healthcare problems and feel like they've run out of options, they usually research what is out there that has helped people in similar situations. They have probably been to 2-4 doctors, tried different medications, maybe even surgery and are still dealing with their problems. They are usually frustrated, and feel like they aren't being heard. Does this sound like you? These are the types of cases that commonly do well with upper cervical doctors.
What is upper cervical chiropractic?
The reason why upper cervical doctors get great results is because they focus on correcting the causes of problems in the body, instead of solely focusing on symptom treatment. The way they do that is first by looking at the upper cervical spine. The top two bones in the neck are called the atlas and axis. The atlas and axis are shaped uniquely because the neck has so much range of motion, but their unique shape makes them vulnerable to misalign. They surround the point where the brain and spinal cord meet, the brain stem. This is the most concentrated area of nerves in the nervous system, and is responsible for a number of important functions such as:
Fight or Flight
Having a misalignment of the atlas or axis also leads to the postural muscles of one side of the body to become tight, causing one shoulder to be higher than the other, one hip to be higher than the other, and on leg to become shorter than the other. Some common postural symptoms include:
Low back pain
Tightness in between the shoulder blades
When the brain stem is under stress for a prolonged period of time the symptoms usually progress to things like:
Chronic fatigue syndrome

We serve all of south Florida, with many patients coming from Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and Boynton Beach. We also have a large amount of patients that travel great distances for care because there are so few upper cervical doctors, and the results are worth it. In Florida we regularly have patients that come from as far south as Miami, and as far north as Stuart. This week we actually had a patient drive from Melbourne, FL because she already experienced the benefits of upper cervical care in another state, and we were the closest office to her in Florida. We also have patients that fly in for a few weeks of treatment from neighboring states, and even other countries.
Our office utilizes the newest technology using a 3D imaging device called a CBCT(cone beam CT) that allows us to view your misalignment in 3 dimensions to accurately measure and correct your upper cervical spine.
