Migraines are something I know about personally. When I was only 10 years old I started getting migraines. They got worse over time, and eventually I had episodes where I couldn’t leave my room. My room had to be pitch black with all the lights off, and no one in the house could make any noise. I would try cold compresses, and medication. Sometimes I ended up dry heaving in the bathroom. The only relief I would be able to get would be once I was able to sleep, I would wake up and the worst of it would be over. For 2-4 days a month my life would have to shut down. No school, no sports, no friends, I just had to wait until it was over. After suffering for years, I found a natural answer that changed my life.

According to the Migraine Foundation, migraines are on the top 20 most debilitating diseases in the world. It is estimated that 25% of US households have someone that suffers from migraines(1). Many times traditional medicine only gives temporary symptomatic relief, with lots of harmful side effects. Some of the common medication for migraines are:

For severe migraine patients

For migraine patients that have severe cases where they have 4 or more migraines a month, attacks last for more than 12 hours, pain-relieving medication isn't working, or you have prolonged numbness or weakness, preventative medication like Botox may be recommended. While Botox treatment may lessen the frequency and intensity of migraines, it has to be repeated every 12 weeks forever. In addition to needing ongoing treatment, Botox doesn't correct the cause of the migraines so they keep coming back if treatment isn't continued.

Natural migraine relief in Delray Beach

Many patients eventually look for natural alternatives for migraine relief so they don't have to depend on medications and the harmful side effects that go with them. One of the most promising natural remedies is with Upper Cervical Chiropractic. Upper Cervical Chiropractic helps reduce or get rid of migraines in a few ways. Upper cervical doctors focus on the top two bones in the neck, the atlas and axis. The vertebral arteries that supply the brain with blood, and oxygen go through the sides of the atlas. If the atlas bone is twisted or tilted, the blood doesn't flow properly to the head and brain and can cause migraines. The atlas also surrounds the brainstem, one of the most concentrated areas of nerves in your body. When these nerves at the base of the skull are irritated, the neck and shoulder muscles get tight and can trigger a migraine.

Returning to my story, I suffered with migraines for years. I tried the traditional medications without results. One day a family friend suggested I try their chiropractor. Not having much to lose, I decided to try it. Within the first week my migraines disappeared and have never come back. After the amazing results I decided to become an upper cervical chiropractor so I could help other people that were searching for answers for their migraines. At our office Schrier Famliy Chiropractic in Delray Beach, we see people every week that no longer have migraines after years and sometimes decades of them. Some patients respond very quickly and almost immediately see results, while some have a more gradual, but long lasting results. We've had people on prescription medications for decades no longer taking anything, and having no more migraines. If you are searching for answers to your migraines, come find out if you are a candidate for upper cervical care.
