Vertigo – What is the cause?

There is no miracle drug that can permanently relieve a person from vertigo. Pharmaceutical companies have produced many drugs to try and mitigate the symptoms. Of course, these sometimes create side effects that are just as bad of an experience.

However, there may be an underlying cause of your vertigo that can be corrected without the use of medication. Does that sound too good to be true?

An Underlying Cause of Vertigo

The truth is that your condition may be an after effect of an accident or injury. You may have to think back a little because a car accident, sports injury, or fall may not result in vertigo from day one. But if the trauma caused a misalignment in the upper neck, there may be issues as the result of connective tissue damage. Such damage is rarely treated when an injury occurs.

When connective tissue starts to break down, the spine can get locked in a stressed position. When this happens, a lot of pressure is placed on the top vertebrae in the neck. As a result, the spine can twist, and the body moves along with it. You may even see it as asymmetry in a person’s face such as the height of one’s eyes and ears being slightly different.

Something else that bends and twists are the canals inside the ears. These are responsible for determining where the body is in relation to the world around you. As a result, vertigo may occur and become a more frequent issue.

An Alternative Solution

Resolution begins by correcting the misalignment in the top of the neck. At Schrier Family Chiropractic, we use the NUCCA technique to do just that. If your vertigo is a result of the misalignment, the correction can improve your symptoms, reduce the frequency of episodes, or even clear up the problem altogether.
