Headaches and Migraines – What’s the Differences?

There are headaches that bring with them a lot of pain and discomfort, and then there are migraine headaches. They are not the same thing but do have some similar symptoms. Let’s examine the differences to determine what type is being suffered.

A Migraine or a Headache

A migraine is a neurological disorder. Headaches are usually due to an external factor.

Migraines are chronic in nature and occur more often than headaches.

A person may be able to carry on with daily activities when experiencing a headache. A migraine is disabling and causes such intense pain that a person is often unable to do much other than lie still.

Migraines cause vertigo, nausea, vomiting, and light/sound sensitivity. These may come on before an attack and remain afterward.

Migraines are sometimes accompanied by bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and other disorders of a psychological nature.

Headaches generally last for only a few hours, whereas migraines can last as long as 72 hours.

Does Anything Help Both Conditions?

Most people look for medication to treat either headaches or migraines. However, there is a better, natural solution that does not involve side-effects. It is seeking the care of an upper cervical chiropractor. The cause of headaches and migraines may be a misalignment in the upper neck that was the result of an injury to the head or neck. This could have been due to a car accident, a fall, or a sports injury.

Upper cervical chiropractors are specifically trained to find these small misalignments and then devise a treatment plan to help their patients gain relief. We will be happy to give the number of adjustments needed to help our patients get relief whether they are suffering from a headache or a migraine. Many have seen great, long-lasting improvement in symptoms. Once the misalignment is corrected, head pain has decreased or even gone away entirely.
