A Possible Injury to the Brainstem?
It has been noted in a number of cases that people with chronic fatigue also have a brainstem injury that has not been discovered. The brainstem plays a huge role in the regulating of energy that the body needs. A damaged brainstem will mean that your energy level and your recovery time will be altered.
If you have ever suffered an accident, even if it was minor, that has done damage to the upper neck area, it could have resulted in a tear in the tissue that holds the spine in place. When this occurs, the spine locks into a stressful position, not allowing healing to take place. The upper neck area rotates easily and, therefore, it is one of the areas in the body that is easily harmed. When this area becomes misaligned, it affects the function of the brain stem, which changes the function of the body. One thing in particular that is disrupted is the production of the hormone called cortisol. This involves a number of functions of both the brain and the body. The Mayo Clinic states that some of these can be digestive problems, sleep problems, obesity, memory problems, and depression. Oddly enough, these are similar to the symptoms of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.
