Lasting Low Back Pain Relief in Delray Beach

If you’ve experienced an episode of low back pain, you’re in good company. Approximately 80% of adults across the country have had low back pain at some point during their lifetime. Many bouts of low back pain will last only a few days to a few weeks and subside on their own. However, many folks who suffer from back pain deal with it on a more chronic basis, with episodes that recur many times over.

Most treatment courses for low back pain begin with over the counter medications for pain relief. A recent New York Times article discusses what is oftentimes the next step – prescription opioids which have been found to be generally ineffective despite their widespread use. Unfortunately, many of these common medications used to treat stubborn low back pain come with a host of unwanted side effects. If you’re looking for a natural and lasting solution, you’re not alone.

Tracing Low Back Pain to Its Source

Getting to the bottom of low back pain requires an approach that can pinpoint the root cause. There are times when the source of lower back pain can be addressed with a simple stretch or modification of a bad habit, such as sitting on a big wallet. However, many times, the actual source of low back pain is not the low back itself, even though that’s where the pain is experienced.

The entire spine is connected through many joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Most of our vertebrae have the same basic shape, with a couple of exceptions: the top two in the spine. The uppermost vertebrae in the spine, the atlas (C1) and axis (C2) are shaped differently since they’re responsible for so much of the movement of the head. This makes them especially prone to misalignment. When this occurs, it causes a domino effect of compensations throughout the spine, which can create abnormal muscle tension and spasm in the lower back. A general chiropractic approach may address the lower back spasm, but never really get to the root cause: the atlas misalignment that started the chain reaction.

At Schrier Family Chiropractic, we take the time to pinpoint the root cause of your condition, no matter where the symptoms may present. If your low back pain is stemming from an upper cervical misalignment, NUCCA care is an incredibly precise and gentle means of correction. Realigning the atlas will allow for those compensations to clear up, relieving the abnormal strain and tension on the low back.
